1. An electrochemical energy storage device comprising an anode, a cathode, and an electrolyte between said anode and said cathode, wherein said electrochemical energy storage device has a surface area-to-volume ratio of less than or equal to about 100 m−1, wherein said device is not capable of conducting ions through said electrolyte at a first temperature, and wherein said device is capable of conducting ions through said electrolyte at a second temperature that is greater than said first temperature, wherein at said second temperature at least two of said anode, said cathode, and said electrolyte are in a liquid state, and wherein said device is configured to be transported at said first temperature at a potential difference between said anode and said cathode that is less than 1 volt.
