1. A method for transforming and displaying a digital image, comprising the steps of:
dividing a digital image comprising a plurality of pixels into neighborhood tiles, wherein each pixel has a luminance;
calculating a global average luminance for said digital image; and
scaling each pixel based upon the combination of the global average luminance for the digital image.
