1. A device for monitoring a vehicle, the device comprising:
a housing configured to be mounted within the vehicle;
at least one sensor arranged in the housing and configured to capture sensor data;
a transceiver configured to communicate with a remote server,
a non-volatile memory arranged in the housing and configured to store data; and
a processor arranged in the housing and operatively connected to the at least one sensor, the transceiver, and the non-volatile memory, the processor being configured to:
receive sensor data from the at least one sensor captured while the vehicle is operated;
detect that a predetermined condition of the vehicle has occurred based on the sensor data, the predetermined condition including at least one of (i) the vehicle having a particular state and (ii) a particular event;
store, in the non-volatile memory, the sensor data captured while the vehicle is operated and metadata identifying the predetermined condition that has occurred and including a timestamp indicating a time at which the predetermined condition occurred; and
operate the transceiver to upload the metadata to the remote server,
wherein the remote server transmits an alert message to at least one remote computing device in response to the metadata indicating that the predetermined condition has occurred, the alert message causing at least one of (i) a passenger of the vehicle and (ii) a shared vehicle service provider to be notified about the predetermined condition having occurred.
