1. A laundry cleaning composition consisting of:
from about 1 wt-% to about 99 wt-% of an alkalinity source which is an alkali metal hydroxide;
from about 0.0005 wt-% to about 50 wt-% of a branched polyamine, wherein the branched polyamine is a compound according to the following formulas:

an surfactant, wherein the surfactant is a 2-ethylhexanol alkoxylate nonylphenol ethoxylate, ethoxylated amine, amine oxide, sophorolipid biosurfactant, an EO/PO block copolymer having terminal hydroxy groups and not having an alkyl group, or a combination thereof; and
water; and
optionally, an additional functional ingredient, wherein the additional functional ingredient is a dye, optical brightener, enzyme, filler, oxidizer, water conditioning agent, or a combination thereof.
