1. A vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with an in-boom lift propulsor, the aircraft comprising:
a fuselage;
a boom attached to a wing of the aircraft and adjacent to the fuselage, the boom having an upper surface, wherein the upper surface comprises a recess that houses a lift propulsor, the lift propulsor comprising:
a motor assembly, wherein the motor assembly comprises a stator, wherein the motor assembly includes a plurality of windings having a plurality of end turns, wherein the plurality of end turns of the plurality of windings extends past at least an axial edge of the stator and a shaft mounted to a rotor, wherein the motor further comprises a mating flange extending radially outward from the stator, wherein the mating flange is integral with the stator, and wherein the recess comprises a mating surface configured to contact the mating flange of the motor; and
a propulsive element affixed to the shaft.
