1. A surgical system for assessing a patient, the surgical system comprising:
an imaging system configured to obtain an image of an anatomy of the patient, the anatomy comprising a ligament;
wherein the imaging system comprises a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system; and
a mechanical driver configured to be positioned on the patient, the mechanical driver configured to induce vibrational shear waves in the anatomy that can be visualized by the MRI system; and
a computer system coupled to the imaging system, the computer system configured to:
receive a patient-specific model of the anatomy of the patient,
receive the image from the imaging system,
determine a mechanical property of the ligament based on the received image, wherein the mechanical property comprises an elasticity of the ligament,
perform a musculoskeletal simulation on the patient-specific model using the determined mechanical property, the musculoskeletal simulation comprising a virtual operation simulating the effects of performing one or more procedures upon the anatomy that are configured to balance strains in collateral ligaments of the patient, and
update a surgical plan based on the performed musculoskeletal simulation, wherein the update to the surgical plan comprises a modification to a surgical step for a bone associated with the surgical plan.
