1. A method for implanting a lead comprising an electrode in a patient using an insertion tool, the method comprising:
configuring the insertion tool in a first configuration in which a lead to be implanted may be inserted into a shaft, the shaft comprising:
an outer cannula, and
an inner cannula;
inserting the lead to be implanted into the shaft of the insertion tool;
configuring, using an actuator, the insertion tool in a second configuration in which the inner cannula and the outer cannula secure the lead within the shaft;
positioning the lead in the patient;
exerting a compressive force on the actuator on the insertion tool to cause the insertion tool to transition from the second configuration to a third configuration wherein the compressive force causes the lead to be released and separated from the shaft;
and withdrawing the insertion tool.
