1. An apparatus for detecting oxidation in at least one planar fuel cell stack, comprising:
a multitude of fuel cells, and
a measuring mechanism for measuring the height of a fuel cell, wherein the measuring mechanism is attached to or in communication with the fuel cell stack, wherein an increase in the height of the fuel cell from a previously measured height correlates to oxidation in at least one of the multitude of fuel cells of the fuel cell stack.
