1. An electrosurgical pencil, comprising:
a housing including proximal and distal ends, the proximal end adapted to connect to an energy source and the distal end adapted to receive an end effector assembly, the end effector assembly defining a surface area;
a multi-stage activation switch operably disposed on the housing and configured to cause delivery of electrosurgical energy to the end effector assembly upon transition of the multi-stage switch to a first stage;
an air control valve operatively coupled to the multi-stage activation switch and configured to control a flow of gas toward the end effector assembly, wherein transition of the multi-stage switch to a second stage is configured to simultaneously cause the gas to be delivered from a gas source to the surface area defined by the end effector assembly and the electrosurgical energy to be delivered to the end effector assembly; and
at least one vent defined in the distal end of the housing configured to direct the gas towards the surface area of the end effector assembly.
