1. A method for processing an electronic image corresponding to a specimen, the method comprising:
receiving an electronic image of a slide corresponding to a specimen, the specimen comprising a tissue sample from a patient;
providing the electronic image as input to a trained machine learning system, wherein the trained machine learning system is trained to predict whether an additional slide should be prepared based on one or more of a deficiency associated with the slide, a morphology characteristic of the tissue sample, or a diagnosis that is identified from the electronic image;
receiving, as output from the trained machine learning system, a prediction of whether an additional slide should be prepared; and
upon determining that the additional slide should be prepared, based on the prediction, automatically ordering the additional slide to be prepared.
