1. A motor system, comprising:
a first electric machine rotationally coupled to a second electric machine by a planetary gear set that comprises three components, a recess formed into a rotor of the second electric machine circumferentially surrounding a portion of the first electric machine, the portion less than an entirety of the first electric machine, wherein the three components are positioned in the recess formed into the rotor of the second electric machine, the three components including a ring gear, a sun gear, and a carrier with a plurality of planet gears rotatably coupled thereto;
wherein the first electric machine varies in size from the second electric machine; and
wherein one of the three components is permanently grounded.
