1. A method for producing hydrated lime, the method comprising:
providing a calcium oxide; and
hydrating said calcium oxide with water including an additive to produce a calcium hydroxide composition;
wherein said calcium hydroxide composition comprises at least 92% calcium hydroxide and said calcium hydroxide has:
a D50 particle size of less than 4 μm;
a D90 particle size of less than 10 μm;
a BET surface area greater than 18 m2/g; and
a D90/D50 particle size ratio of less than 3.
