1. A vascular filter device comprising:
a support for engaging a wall of a blood vessel;
a filter supported on the support and comprising a plurality of V-shaped or Y-shaped filter elements each filter element having two proximal segments connected to the support and a distal segment having a reception space at a distal end thereof configured to receive a biodegradable holder, the biodegradable holder configured to at least temporarily restrain the filter elements at a distal apex when the filter elements are across at least part of a cross-section of a blood vessel when in a filtering closed position;
wherein the distal segment extends radially outwardly at an angle to the two proximal segments; and
wherein at least one filter element extends radially outwardly with respect to a vascular filter device longitudinal axis when unconstrained.
