1. A method for implementing a medical system algorithm by an authorized medical caregiver, the method comprising:
receiving a condition of a parameter associated with one or more sensors configured to measure the parameter of the patient;
receiving a selection of a customizable algorithm from a plurality of customizable algorithms, each of the plurality of customizable algorithms comprising a predetermined response, the predetermined response being associated with a preselected parameter and a preselected condition of the preselected parameter, wherein the plurality of customizable algorithms comprise non-terminal parameter symbols and terminal parameter symbols that are configured to be satisfied by a plurality of non-terminal medical device parameters and terminal medical device parameters, non-terminal condition symbols and terminal condition symbols that are configured to be satisfied by a plurality of nonterminal medical device conditions and terminal medical device conditions, and a response symbol that is configured to be satisfied by a plurality of medical system responses;
comparing the received condition of the parameter with the preselected condition of the preselected parameter associated with the selected customizable algorithm;
determining that the received condition satisfies the preselected condition; and
executing the predetermined response associated with the selected customizable algorithm.
