1. A compound comprising a ligand LA of Formula III, wherein the ligand LA is coordinated to a metal M, and M is optionally coordinated to other ligands
wherein Z is C or N;
wherein ring A is a 5-membered aromatic ring, a 5-membered heteroaromatic ring, a 6-membered aromatic ring having two adjacent RA together joined to form a 5-membered ring which is optionally further substituted, or ring A is pyridine wherein Z is C;
L1 to L4 are independently selected from CR or CRR′; and the bond between L1 and L2, L2 and L3, and L3 and L4 may be a single bond or a double bond;
RA represents mono to the maximum allowable substitution, or no substitution;
each of RA, R, and R′ are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, halide, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, amino, silyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, carbonyl, carboxylic acids, ester, nitrile, isonitrile, sulfanyl, sulfinyl, sulfonyl, phosphino, and combinations thereof or any two adjacent substitutions in RA, R, and R′ can join to form a ring;
R″ is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, deuterium, fluorine, alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, arylalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, acyl, ester, and combinations thereof;
wherein any two of L1, L2, L3, and L4 can join to form a ring, or any one of L1, L2, and L3 with R″ can join to form a bicyclic ring;
wherein the ligand LA is optionally linked with other ligands to comprise a tridentate, tetradentate, pentadentate, or hexadentate ligand
provided that at least one of conditions (i) and (ii) are met:
(i) two adjacent groups of L1, L2, L3, and L4 are joined to form an aryl, and
(ii) a group of L1, L2, L3, and L4 binds with a non-adjacent group of L1, L2, L3, and L4 or with R″ to form a bicyclic ring.
