1. A user device for capturing an image to be authenticated via a network communication, the user device comprising:
one or more hardware processors; and
a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium encoded with instructions that, when executed by the one or more hardware processors, cause the user device to perform operations comprising:
capture an image to an image file;
generate a hash file by hashing the image file;
determine a characteristic of a network connection; and
determine, based on the determined characteristic of the network connection, whether to (i) send the image file via the network connection or (ii) send the hash file and identifying information that identifies the image file via the network connection.
