1. A system comprising:
a host device comprising a host processor and host memory;
a storage device comprising non-volatile memory, volatile memory separate from the host memory, and control circuitry separate from the host processor;
a communication interface between the host device and the storage device, configured to enable communication between the host device and the storage device; and
a unidirectional power state signal interface, separate from the communication interface and controlled by the storage device, configured to provide a storage device power status from a unidirectional power state hardware pin of the storage device to the host device,
wherein the storage device is configured to receive commands from the host device over the communication interface,
wherein the host device is configured to control generation of power levels of the storage device and to enable or disable the communication interface,
wherein the control circuitry is configured to automatically, while the communication interface is disabled by the host device and after a threshold amount of time after completing an operation without receiving or performing a subsequent command or operation, move host data stored in volatile memory of the storage system device to non-volatile memory of the storage device,
wherein the control circuitry is configured to automatically transition the storage device power status from an active power status to a low power status on the unidirectional power state hardware pin after automatically moving the host data stored in volatile memory of the storage device to non-volatile memory of the storage device, indicating that the host device can remove VCC from the storage system.
