1. An apparatus configured to enhance incoming audio signals, the apparatus comprising:
a controller configured to:
receive an incoming audio signal; and
generate a controller output signal based on the incoming audio signal;
a neural network engine (NNE) coupled to the controller and configured to receive the controller output signal when transmitted from the controller, and further configured to generate an NNE output signal based on the controller output signal; and
digital signal processing (DSP) circuitry coupled to the controller and the NNE, and configured to receive the controller output signal from the controller or the NNE output signal from the NNE, the DSP circuitry being further configured to generate a processed signal based on the controller output signal and/or the NNE output signal;
wherein the controller is further configured to selectively transmit the controller output signal to the NNE or the DSP circuitry based on specified criteria and/or a characteristic of the incoming audio signal.
