17. A method comprising:
obtaining, for a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) system having a plurality of a wide area network (WAN) links for an SD-WAN service, a service level agreement (SLA) rule that matches an application, wherein the SLA rule specifies a metric and a preferred type of WAN link; and
based on determining that no links of the plurality of WAN links satisfy the metric specified by the SLA rule and that the SLA rule specifies strict affinity, identifying a first set of one or more WAN links, from the plurality of WAN links, having a link type that matches the preferred type of WAN link specified by the SLA rule and assigning the application to a WAN link of the first set of one or more WAN links.
