1. A method comprising:
receiving, by a user equipment (UE) device, a slice selection trigger that includes an instruction to connect to a selected network slice associated with an application function, wherein the slice selection trigger is received from a signaling slice Access and Mobility Function (AMF) in a signaling network slice used to send instructions to UE devices to request a network slice;
obtaining, by the UE device and from the received slice selection trigger, a Data Network Name (DNN) associated with the selected network slice and a Protocol Data Unit (PDU) type identifying a Quality of Service (QoS) class to be requested by the UE device;
requesting and receiving, by the UE device, an updated allowed slices list;
in response to receiving the updated allowed slices list, sending, by the UE device, a session establishment request to an AMF associated with the selected network slice and identified in the updated allowed slices list, wherein the AMF associated with the selected network slice is different from the signaling slice AMF, and wherein the session establishment request includes information identifying the obtained DNN and the QoS class; and
establishing, by the UE device, a data session with a User Plane Function (UPF) associated with the selected network slice based on the session establishment request.
