1. A method for controlling a media server connected to a network, comprising:
receiving, from a network operator, first guide information comprising tuning information associated with a plurality of media items;
receiving, from a content publishing service, second guide information associated with at least a media item of the plurality of media items;
transmitting, to a media client device connected to the network, third guide information based on the first guide information and the second guide information;
receiving a request, from the media client device connected to the network, to access a broadcast of a selected media item, wherein the media item is selected from the plurality of media items using the third guide information;
determining broadcast parameters for tuning to the broadcast of the selected media item, wherein the broadcast parameters include a broadcast frequency and a virtual channel number;
determining a command string representative of the broadcast parameters; and
transmitting the command string to the media client device, wherein a tuner of the media client device can be controlled to tune to a television channel corresponding to the broadcast parameters represented in the command string.
