1. A method for detecting timestamp discontinuities, comprising:
acquiring a packet chunk that includes a sequence of packets;
identifying, at a streaming device, a first timestamp associated with an earliest packet within the sequence of packets;
identifying, at the streaming device, a second timestamp associated with a latest packet within the sequence of packets;
determining a timestamp time difference between the first timestamp and the second timestamp;
identifying a data rate at which the sequence of packets were encoded;
determining a maximum chunk time difference based on the data rate at which the sequence of packets were encoded and a chunk size of the packet chunk;
detecting, at the streaming device, that a timestamp discontinuity exists within the packet chunk based on the timestamp time difference and the maximum chunk time difference;
identifying a location of the timestamp discontinuity within the packet chunk; and
transmitting the location of the timestamp discontinuity from the streaming device.
