1. A method comprising:
receiving a request to access a media content item;
generating for output the media content item at a first speed;
determining whether a content type of the media content item corresponds to a particular content type;
based on determining that the content type of the media content item corresponds to the particular content type, generating for display a plurality of indicators respectively corresponding to a plurality of speeds;
receiving a selection of one of the plurality of indicators, wherein the selected indicator corresponds to a second speed;
based on the received selection, modifying the speed of the media content item being generated for output from the first speed to the second speed;
determining a maximum speed and a minimum speed for the particular content type; and
based on determining the maximum speed and the minimum speed for the particular content type, causing the plurality of indicators to include a first indicator corresponding to the maximum speed and a second indicator corresponding to the minimum speed.
