1. An appliance comprising:
a cabinet;
a chamber within the cabinet wherein the chamber defines a front opening;
a door rotatably attached to the cabinet between an open position and a closed position for providing selective access to the chamber, wherein the door covers the front opening when in the closed position;
a camera; and
a controller operably coupled to the camera, the controller configured to:
obtain one of more images using the camera;
perform image classification of at least a portion of the one or more images using a machine learning image recognition process;
determine whether the image classification provides an indication that the door is in the open position; and
adjust at least one operating parameter of the appliance if image classification provides an indication that the door is in the open position; and
wherein the controller is further configured to store service diagnostic data if it is determined that the door is in the closed position.
