1. A hand vacuum cleaner comprising:
(a) an air flow path from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a suction motor provided in the air flow path;
(b) a cyclone assembly positioned in the air flow path, the cyclone assembly comprising a cyclone chamber, the cyclone chamber having a front end, a rear end, a cyclone axis of rotation extending between the front and rear ends, an axially extending sidewall, an upper end, a lower end, a cyclone air inlet and a cyclone air outlet provided at the rear end of the cyclone chamber, wherein the front end of the cyclone chamber and the sidewall define the cyclone chamber and wherein the rear end of the cyclone chamber is rotationally moveable by a rotational mount between a closed position in which the cyclone chamber is closed and an open position in which a rear portion of the cyclone chamber is open and, in the open position, the sidewall extends 360° around the cyclone axis of rotation to define a volume enclosed by the front end of the cyclone chamber and the sidewall; and,
(c) a lock that is moveable between a locked position in which the rear end is secured in the closed position and an unlocked position in which the rear end is moveable to the open position,
wherein the cyclone assembly further comprises a dirt collection chamber that is external to the cyclone chamber and a rear end of both of the cyclone chamber and the dirt collection chamber are concurrently opened when the rear end is moved to the open position, and
wherein, in operation, air travels through the rear end as air travels through the cyclone air outlet to the suction motor and the suction motor faces the rear end, and wherein the cyclone air outlet is mounted to the rear portion of the cyclone chamber whereby, as the rear portion moves to the open position, the cyclone air outlet is concurrently removed from the volume as the rear end of both of the cyclone chamber and the dirt collection chamber are opened.
