4. A method implemented on a first device, the method comprising:
receiving, while the first device is operating in a first mode, a management frame from a second device, the management frame requesting an association with the second device, comprising a secret, and excluding information to connect to an access point, the first device capable of wireless data reception and incapable of wireless data transmission in the first mode;
determining that the secret is valid;
receiving, based at least in part on the secret being valid, the information from the second device, the information received absent a request from the first device to the second device for the information and absent a request from the first device to the second device to establish a connection between the first device and the second device; and
performing at least one of:
switching an operational mode of the first device from the first mode to a second mode, the first device capable of the wireless data transmission in the second mode; or
performing, while operating in the first mode, a command indicated by the second device.
