1. A method comprising:
causing an application to present a subset of augmented reality items associated with a collection of augmented reality items;
receiving a request to subscribe to the collection of augmented reality items;
in response to receiving the request to subscribe to the collection of augmented reality items, displaying a notification to a user indicating changes to augmented reality items in the collection of augmented reality items, the changes comprising addition of augmented reality items to the subset of augmented reality items and removal of augmented reality items from the subset of augmented reality items;
causing the application to modify an image based on a first augmented reality item in the subset;
determining that the image has been modified by the first augmented reality item for a threshold period of time; and
in response to determining that the image has been modified by the first augmented reality item for the threshold period of time, automatically replacing the first augmented reality item with a second augmented reality item in the subset to modify the image based on the second augmented reality item, wherein additional augmented reality items in the subset are automatically applied to modify the image upon of each subsequent passage of the threshold period of time.
