1. A computer-implemented method comprising:
using an agricultural computer system comprising a computing device with a memory, receiving, over a network, field definition data and environmental data, the agricultural computer system in communication with a variable-rate pump or an electrically operated liquid control valve of an agricultural implement,
wherein the field definition data identify a field,
wherein the environmental data include environmental information related to farming activities for the field;
determining soil data from the environmental data,
wherein the soil data includes soil type, cation exchange capacity, and available nitrogen for the field;
determining, based on the soil data, by the agricultural computer system, carbon load data indicating carbon load present in the field during a planting date;
receiving first input indicating a plurality of starter application criteria,
wherein the plurality of starter application criteria includes planting data, criteria of a starter application equipment, a type of a starter fertilizer, and a composition of the starter fertilizer;
based on the first input and the carbon load present in the field, generating, by the agricultural computer system, application data that include an amount of the starter fertilizer that provides nutrients to seeds throughout a nutrient immobilization period between the planting date and a beginning of a microorganism mineralization period;
generating, by the agricultural computer system, control instructions for controlling the agricultural implement based on the generated application data;
communicating, by the agricultural computer system, the control instructions to the agricultural implement; and
controlling, by an agricultural machine computing device of the agricultural implement, at least one of a pump rate of the variable-rate pump or a valve state of the electrically operated liquid control valve of the agricultural implement with signals indicative of the control instructions to apply, via the variable-rate pump or the electrically operated liquid control valve, the amount of starter fertilizer to the field.
