1. An electromagnetic stimulation system comprising:
a non-transitory memory for storing a plurality of modulation signal parameter programs;
a selection device for selecting one of the plurality of modulation signal parameter programs,
a signal generator responsive to a selected of the plurality of modulation signal parameter programs and configured to generate a correction signal; and
an output for connection to at least one electrode operatively coupled to the signal generator and configured for delivering the correction signal to an application point in an afferent pathway of a mammalian subject;
wherein the correction signal in combination with a nociceptive signal in the afferent pathway distal of the application point has a temporal profile which is different from a temporal profile of a nociceptive signal proximal of the application point.
