1. An emergency lighting unit comprising:
a light source;
an antenna operable to receive a wireless communication signal;
a near-field communication (“NFC”) module connected to the antenna, the NFC module operable to write, to a memory, information associated with the wireless communication signal;
a controller connected to the NFC module, the controller configured to
read the information associated with the wireless communication signal from the memory,
set one or more system parameters of the emergency lighting unit based on the information associated with the wireless communication signal, and
control the illumination of the light source based on at least one system parameter based on the information associated with the wireless communication signal.
