1. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including instructions that when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
receive, from an application, a request to monitor a resource of a communication channel for communication traffic to be generated by the application, wherein the request is to be based on an instruction exposed by a host fabric interface (HFI);
transmit the request to a switch;
receive, from the switch, an acknowledgment to indicate the switch is to monitor the resource of the communication channel for the communication traffic to be generated by the application; and
transmit, to the application, a result of the monitoring of the resource of the communication channel.
