1. An augmented reality (AR) device, comprising:
a display module configured to output light of a virtual image;
a waveguide transmitting the output light of the virtual image to an eye of a user and passing external light therethrough;
a gaze tracking sensor configured to obtain an image of the eye of the user;
a memory storing instructions; and
a processor configured to execute the instructions to:
measure a pupil size of the eye of the user based on the image of the eye of the user obtained by the gaze tracking sensor,
calculate a pupil size ratio, the pupil size ratio being a ratio of a diameter of the measured pupil size to a diameter of an iris of the eye of the user; and
control the display module to adjust a brightness of the light of the virtual image based on a result of a comparison of the calculated pupil size ratio with a reference pupil size ratio.
