1. An apparatus comprising:
a chassis configured to mount into a server rack, including:
expansion card slots;
status lights, each status light corresponding to one of the expansion card slots, configured to provide indications of operational status for a peripheral card inserted into an associated expansion card slot;
communication switch circuitry including at least three communication switch elements, the communication switch circuitry configured to couple the expansion card slots;
power control circuitry configured to provide hot swap capability for slot power and auxiliary power of the expansion card slots, such that a selected expansion card slot can have the slot power and the auxiliary power concurrently disabled before removal of an inserted expansion card while remaining ones of the expansion card slots have the slot power and the auxiliary power enabled; and
wherein the slot power is provided through the expansion card slots and the auxiliary power is provided at different connections than the slot power and having different voltage levels than the slot power.
