1. A method of producing a C6-C24 fatty alcohol, said method comprising:
a) providing a recombinant Yarrowia lipolytica microorganism comprising a heterologous nucleic acid molecule encoding and expressing a Euglena fatty alcohol-forming fatty acyl reductase that catalyzes conversion of C6-C24 fatty acyl-CoA into a corresponding mono- or poly-unsaturated C6-C24 fatty alcohol; and
b) cultivating the recombinant Yarrowia lipolytica of (a) in a culture medium containing a carbon source feedstock and C6-C24 fatty acyl-CoA;
wherein the C6-C24 fatty acyl-CoA is converted to a C6-C24 fatty alcohol by catalytic activity of the fatty alcohol-forming fatty acyl reductase.
