1. A method of treating hair loss disorders and increasing hair arowth in a mammalian subject, the method comprising administering to those areas of skin of the subject manifesting undesirable hair thinning or loss or for which additional hair thickening or growth is desired a therapeutically effective amount of a hair promotion composition comprising one or more aryl alkanones, in a dermatologically or topically acceptable carrier, said one or more aryl alkanones having the following structure:
wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 which may be the same or different, are independently H, OH, alkyl or alkoxy wherein the alkyl or alkoxy groups are linear or branched and have from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and R6 is H, COCH3 or CO2R7, and wherein R7 is a linear or branched alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms.
