1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:
receiving, over a short distance wireless network that was used to register a tracker and from the tracker that was in a default operation mode, a communication signal;
receiving, over a long distance wireless network and from the tracker that couples to an asset and sends communication signals with location information for the tracker, a message that comprises location information of the tracker and indicates that the tracker is operating in a first operation mode different from the default operation mode for the tracker;
in response to receiving the message that comprises the location information of the tracker and indicates that the tracker is operating in the first operation mode different from the default operation mode for the tracker, determining a likely location of the tracker using the location information of the tracker included in the message; and
sending, to a device within a threshold distance of the likely location of the tracker, a command to cause the device to monitor the likely location of the tracker.
