1. A refuse vehicle, comprising:
a chassis;
a body coupled to the chassis, the body defining a refuse compartment;
a tailgate detachably coupled to the body, the tailgate defining a battery compartment; and
an electrical energy system, wherein at least a portion of the electrical energy system is coupled to the tailgate and positioned within the battery compartment of the tailgate,
wherein the tailgate includes a detachable electrical connection between the battery compartment and the body.
