1. A carpenter square comprising:
a plate which is triangular in shape, wherein the plate includes a first side edge and a second side edge arranged at a right angle to one another, and a hypotenuse located opposite the right angle; and
a base operatively engaged with the plate and being arranged generally parallel to the second side edge of the plate;
wherein the base has a first side and a first end that intersect at a corner;
wherein the plate defines a pivot notch in the first side edge;
wherein the corner extends over the pivot notch when the base is engaged with the plate; and
wherein the first side and the first end of the base are oriented at an angle of less than 90° to one another.
