7. A can bodymaker comprising:
a mounting assembly;
a ram drive assembly comprising:
a cam having a body with a number of cooperative cam surfaces, and
a motor having a rotatable output shaft operatively coupled to said cam body and structured to rotate said cam body; and
a forming system including a plurality of forming assemblies positioned on the mounting assembly, each forming assembly of the plurality of forming assemblies comprising:
a stationary assembly including a die pack defining an elongated forming passage having a proximal end and a distal end, and
a moving assembly including:
a ram assembly including an elongated ram body having a proximal end and a distal end, and
a cam follower assembly coupled to the proximal end of the ram body,
wherein each cam follower assembly of each forming assembly cooperatively engages the number of cooperative cam surfaces of the body of the cam,
wherein for each forming assembly, when the cam body is rotated the ram body is reciprocated through the forming passage of the die pack by the cam follower assembly between a retracted, first position, wherein the distal end of the ram body is spaced from the proximal end of the die pack, and, an extended, second position wherein the distal end of the ram body extends from the distal end of the die pack,
wherein the cam body is a disk cam or a barrel cam, and
wherein the number of cooperative cam surfaces are portions of a ridge extending from the cam body.
