1. An article of footwear comprising a sole structure and an upper, the upper comprising:
a knitted component having unitary knit construction and having a base portion that is configured to be disposed underfoot and coextensive with the sole structure, the base portion comprising a first knit layer and a second knit layer overlapping with the first knit layer, wherein the first knit layer and the second knit layer each extend continuously between a lateral side and a medial side of the upper to define an underfoot portion passage that is coextensive with the base portion, the underfoot portion passage extending continuously between the lateral side and the medial side of the upper; and
a tensile strand extending through the underfoot portion passage between the lateral and medial sides.
